"A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know." - Diane Arbus

I never intended to pursue a career in photography till I was standing under the spotlight accepting my awards at Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles.

Raised in Southern California, Winnie Lek (used to be Winnie Huang) is an award-winning photographer with a concentration in art direction and film production. Her past employers include NownessVICE, Visual China GroupGetty Images,  Sports Illustrated & University of Oregon. As a creator, she is passionate about the stories, people, brands, and projects that influence an intersection of art and conversation. With an intent to be as vulnerable philosophical or poetic as need be, her works categorized as both whimsical and journalistic. Currently, she resides between Brooklyn, New York and Shanghai, China working primarily in video, photography and design.

Her creative approach - no matter the medium - is to connect with people. She wants to explore her limits, to make illusion, something manipulative. For her, creativity isn’t about instigation, but rather, a way to arrest your audience. It’s a way to plant a little bit of desire in their hearts; a yearning to turn the page and learn more about your idea. Ultimately, it’s about creating memorable images.
